Clinton traveled to Montague High School for a girls varsity wrestling tournament showcase.  The event was covered well by local news and media from across the state.  Several high lights and interviews from our Clinton girls ended up on the news as well as having several college coaches take notice that were in attendance.  Michelle Arntz competed at 110 pounds during the day and lost to the number two seed in the opening round by a close 3-0 score.  Michelle then bounced back with a pin in the second period over Rikeysha James from Three Rivers.  In her final match,Michelle lost to Raegan Codden of Manistee to finish her tournament.  At 170 pounds Jayden Rosza competed well against Injeel Sarr of Northview after picking up two takedowns, but got caught late in the match and lost.  In Jayden's second match she dropped a close 5-9 match and picked up two more takedowns before ending her tournament run.  Leanne Mercier competed at 155 pounds and started her day off with a lose to Ava Pelton of Montague in the quarter finals.  Leanne then picked up a 10-3 vicotry over Remmie Gavle of Forest Hills Central after picking up four takedowns.  In her final match of the day Leanne lost to Natalie Tobey from Jackson.  At 130 pounds sophomore Faith Blackburn picked up a first period fall in just 16 seconds over Abigail Farkas of Frankfort in the quarter finals.  Faith then wrestled Emma Donovan of Forest Hills Eastern in the semi finals and earned another first period pin to put herself in the finals.  Faith then fell to Caylynn Chandler of Birch Run by a score of 3-4 for her first loss of the year and place 2nd.  At 135 pounds Raven Aldridge opened her day against Michayla Chcuik of Grand Haven and earned a pin in 56 seconds.  In the quarter finals Raven defeated Breauna Swinehart of Constantine with a first period fall in 1:27.  In the semi finals Raven was winning 7-3 going into the third period, but made a costly mistake and lost by pin to Carly Cowles of Whittemore Prescott for her first loss of the year.  Raven bounced back with a win over Michayla Chcuik of Grand Haven, who she had wrestled earlier in the tournament to earn a spot for third place.  In her final match of the day Raven defeated Sienna Tovar of Jackson 6-0 to finish in third place.  The Redwolves final competitor was Taylor Randolph at 140 pounds.  Taylor opened her tournament with a pin in 28 seconds over Alison Bowman of Boyne City.  In the semi finals Randolph defeated Abrielle VanderZwaag with a pin in the second period in 3:00.  In the finals Taylor lost to Jessica Martinez of West Catholic by a score of 1-5 for her first lost in two years.  The tournament was a great set up for the girls, but left room for improvement for the entire team.  We look forward to the next opportunity to show how much growth we have.  The girls have several all girls tournaments coming in the next several weeks.
