8 Wrestler Qualify for the Individual State Championships

On Saturday, Feb. 17th the wrestlers traveled to Constantine for the MHSAA Individual Regional Tournament.  Clinton had 10 wrestlers qualify for the individual regional tournament by placing in the top four at individual districts that were held at Williamston.  Clinton ended the day qualifying 8 of the 10 wrestlers to the MHSAA Individual State Championships held at Ford Field March 1st and 2nd.  Leading the way were Regional Champion Connor Younts as he won his fourth regional championship of his career.  A tough and huge accomplishment for the senior to go along with his 150 career wins and counting.  On his way to his fourth championship Younts picked up a pin, a technical fall, and a major decision win in the finals 11-3.  Senior Nate Arntz punched his ticket to the state finals for the first time in his career with style as he won a  regional championship at 106 pounds.  Nate had a pin and a 7-3 decision in the finals to capture his title.  Freshman Zach Taylor lost two heartbreaking matches 5-6 and 9-11 to end his individual season at 113 pounds.  Senior Dylan Badge also lost two close matches at 144 pounds 5-7 and 3-8 to end his individual season.  These two battled to the end of each match and will get the opportunity to help their team in the team state championships starting Friday.  At 138 pounds Maurice Ames placed 3rd overall to qualify for his third state championships.  After suffering a first round loss, Maurice came back with a vengeance collecting two pins in a row and a medical forfeit in the 3rd place match.  Cliff Jones qualified for his first state championship at 150 pounds with a 2nd place finish.  He picked up a 14-2 major decision and a 7-3 win in the semi final match before dropping his finals match to take second.  At 175 pounds sophomore Bryce Randolph picked up a regional championship after a pin in the opening round, then a 5-0 win in the semifinals, before winning 5-2 in the finals.  Senior Wyatt Hicks punched his ticket to the state championships for the first time at 215 pounds with a pin in the first round, followed by a 2-0 win in the semifinals, before dropping his finals match to take 2nd overall.  Junior Hamza Rafferty placed fourth at heavyweight to qualify for the first time to the state championships.  Hamza opened with a big 3-1 win, before losing a close match in overtime in the semi finals.  Then picked up a 4-3 win to qualify, and dropped his final match 3-5 to take 4th overall.  Clinton qualified 8 out of 10 for the boys individual state championship that will be held at Ford Field on Friday and Saturday March 1st & 2nd.  

But before that, Clinton will compete at Kalamazoo K Wings Stadium for the MHSAA Team State Championships on Friday at 4:30pm as the 3 seed in the Elite 8 Team State Bracket.  The Redwolves will take on the 6 seed Yale in what will be an epic battle between two great teams.  Make plans to travel up and support your Redwolves as they battle and represent our school and community with pride.  Thank you for your continued support.
