Wrestling Competes in Final Four

Wrestling competed in the MHSAA Final Four at Kalamazoo's K Wings Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 24th.   After defeating Yale in the State Quarterfinals Clinton took on 2nd ranked Whitehall and last year's state runner up in the semifinals.  The match started at 165 pounds and sophomore Bryce Randolph got Clinton off to a great start with a pin in the first period.  Clinton 6 Whitehall 0.  At 175 pounds John Keibler battled hard but was pinned to tie the score at 6 apiece. Sophomore Landon Lakatos stepped in and bumped up to 190 pounds from 175 and did his job of not getting pinned.  He battled and showed great heart for the team and saved the team two points as he lost by major decision 9-1. Wyatt Hicks lost his match at 215 pounds.  Hamza Rafferty got the match going again with a huge pin at heavyweight against a kid that pinned him last time they wrestled.  Clinton 12 Whitehall 16.  Nate Arntz battled at 106 pounds into overtime but got pinned.  Zach Taylor lost a close hard fought match at 113 pounds 2-1.  Joe Hodges lost 12-2 at 120 pounds.  Junior Braylon Long got Clinton rolling again at 126 pounds with a 3-0 win.  Clinton 15 Whitehall 29.  Connor Younts picked up the technical fall by winning 17-2 and picking up five points for the team.  Clinton 20 Whitehall 29.  Maurice Ames picked up a major decision and four team points by winning 12-4 at 138 pounds.  Clinton 24 Whitehall 29.  Dylan Badge lost a tough match 8-5 at 144 pounds.  Tanner Bolton and Cliff Jones were both pinned at 150 and 157 pounds to end the dual. Final score Clinton 24 Whitehall 44.  Clinton finished the season with a 27-6 record, a district championship, a regional championship, an elite 8, and a final four to finish the season.  We now finish the season at the MHSAA Individual State Championships at Ford Field Friday and Saturday, March 1st & 2nd.  Clinton has 9 state qualifiers and are looking to earn state championships and all state status.  One more exciting weekend to finish the season.  Thank you for the support throughout the season.
