On Friday, Aug. 25th the varsity football traveled to Pontiac Notre Dame Prep for their season opener and first of four straight road games.  Clinton fell 21-37 to the division 5 third ranked team in the state.  Clinton is ranked in the top 10 for division 7.  Overall the team rushed for 232 yards and passed for an additional 76 yards for a total of 308 yards of offense. Clinton held PNDP to 101 yards rushing, but gave up 253 yards in passing.  In the opening drive Clinton drove down to the red zone and Wyatt Hicks kicked a 26 yard field goal to put Clinton up 3-0 to the game.  PNDP then scored on a 14 yard pass and kicked the extra point to make it 3-7 going into the second quarter.  Clinton found the endzone on a run by Nik Shadley from 8 yards out, the two point conversion failed.  Clinton was back up 9-7, until PNDP hit a 71 yard touchdown pass to go into halftime up 15-9 over the Redwolves.  Out of halftime PNDP hit another long pass for 60 yards and a touchdown to go up 23-9, but Clinton answered right back with a 1 yard run for a touchdown by Jake Felts. Making the score Clinton 15 PNDP 23.  Clinton found the endzone again in the fourth quarter by another 5 yard run by Jake Felts.  Leaders were Nik Shadley with 96 yards on 16 attempts, Jake Felts with 71 yards on 14 attempts, Cole Breitenwischer with 61 yards on 16 attempts, Andy Fair with 3 yards on 6 attempts, and Joey Preston with 1 yard on two attempts.  Andy Fair was 5 of 10 passing with 76 yards.  Nik Shadley had two receptions for 44 yards, Mason Brodie had a 20 yard reception, and Jake Felts had two receptions for 12 yards.  Mason Brodie had two punts that averaged 39.5 yards.  Nik Shadley had four kickoff returns for a total of 110 yards, Shadley also returned two punts for 18 yards.  Pancake blocks that were earned, Wyatt Hicks had two, Nate Page, Tyrus Hayes, and Brodie all had one.  Defensively Jake Felts had 7 tackles, Bryce Randolph and Brodie had 6 tackles, Joey Preston had 5.  Tackles for losses were, Wyatt Hicks had two, Felts, Brodie and Cade Brighton each had one.  

Offensive Player of the game was offensive tackle Nate Page for his leadership and consistent blocking.  Defensive Player of the Game was Wyatt Hicks for his work on the defensive line.  Red Army Player of the Game was Joey Preston, and Special Teams Player of the Game was Wyatt Hicks.  This years Captains are Wyatt Hicks, Cole Breitenwischer, and Nik Shadley.  Along with a Captain of the week to join them.  Last weeks Captain of the Week was Teddy Pizio and this weeks Captain of the Week is Nate Page.  This week Clinton travels to Detroit Central on Thursday, Aug. 31st at 6pm for game two.
