The Varsity Red Wrestling Team Competes at Lutheran Westland

Our Varsity Red Team competed at an individual tournament hosted by Lutheran Westland called the Traci Mosher Memorial Tournament.  Clinton placed 7th out of 16 teams with 84 team points.  The top finisher was Drew McNatt at Hwt. as he finished runner up in this varsity tournament.  After an opening round bye Drew picked up a pin in the quarterfinals.  In the semi finals Drew won 9-7 before finishing as runner up.  Will Charlton competed at Hwt. as well but was unable to place.  Manny Estrada picked up a technical fall win 17-2 in his first match at 215 pounds.  Manny dropped his next match before picking up pin in his third match. Manny lost his next match to place to finish his tournament at 2-2.  Chance Maddox picked up a pin in his opening match, but dropped his quarterfinal match.  After than Chance picked up two straight wins one with a pin and another with a technical fall 17-0 win.  Chance dropped his match to place and finished 3-2 on the day.  Grant Kutzley picked up a pin in his opening match at 190 pounds but dropped his next two matches and finished his day 1-2.  Clinton had another 190 pounds with Zander Urban who lost his first match, but bounced back with a win by pin in his second match before dropping his final match on the day.  At 175 pounds Shane Cook opened his tournament with a pin, then dropped his next match.  Shane received a bye to continue to advance in the tournament, but lost his final bout and fell short of placing.  Kolton Pruss also competed at 175 pounds and lost his first match, received a bye in his second match, but lost his last match and was unable to place.  At 165 pounds Griffin Bowers picked up a an opening round pin to advance to the quarterfinals.  Griffin lost his quarterfinal match, then received a bye before dropping his last match.  Jonah Hahn also competed at 165 pounds and started with an opening round pin in just 53 seconds.  In the quarterfinals Jonah lost his match 8-15.  But bounced back with three straight wins, all by pin to put himself in the match for third.  Jonah fought hard and finished in fourth place on the day.  Jacob Pope competed at 157 pounds and lost his first match, then suffered a minor injury that ended his day of competition.  At 150 pounds Keegan Keith started out with a win by pin, before dropping his quarterfinal match.  Keegan bounce back and picked up another win by pin.  But lost his match to place to finish his day at 2-2.  Grady Aldridge competed at 132 pounds and started his day off with a pin for the win.   Then dropped his next match and lost a heartbreaker 5-8 in sudden victory overtime to finish his day.  At 126 pounds Max Delphy started his day with a loss, but picked up three straight wins, two by pin and a 9-3 decision.  In his match to place he was unable to get the win to finish his day 3-2.  This was a great tournament for these wrestlers to continue to get varsity experience and their improvements throughout the season showed with some varsity wins.

Wrestling Competes at Bedford Under the Spotlight

On Tuesday, Jan. 28th Clinton traveled to Bedford for their annual Red Out Spot Light match.  It was a packed house with a great environment as Clinton battle the division one powerhouse who is currently ranked 6th in division one.  Clinton is the 6th ranked team in division four currently.  The Varsity match started at 106 pounds and Hudson Miller competed hard and came away with a 13-4 major decision to start Clinton off with a win.  Hudson picked up four takedowns during the match.  After that is was all Bedford for several matches as they pulled away.  At 113 pounds Zach Taylor battled but dropped his match 4-15 to give up a major decision to tie the team score at 4 a piece.  At 120 pounds Wyatt Cooley just returned after being sick and was pinned to give Bedford a 10-4 lead.  Brock Worden gave up a technical fall at 126 pounds 0-17 and Bedford had the momentum.  At 132 pounds and at 138 pounds Bedford picked up pins against Braxton Randolph and Joe Hodges.  At 144 pounds Isaac Keibler was pinned as well at Tanner Bolton at 150 pounds.  Cliff Jones got Clinton in the win column again as he earned a 7-1 win at 157 pounds after picked up two takedowns in the match.  John Keibler was pinned at 165 pounds.  Bryce Randolph was able to come out and pick up a pin for the Redwolves at 175 pounds.  Following was Gradyn Whelan at 190 pounds and he picked up a pin as well.  Landon Lakatos battled at 215 pounds and only gave up a major decision as he refused to give up the pin.  Hamza Rafferty end the night with a pin at Hwt. as the upper weights carried the team tonight.  This was a great experience and many lessons were collected on the night.  In the girls match's Khloie Miller was in a battle until one mistake cost her getting pinned.  Raven Aldridge earned a pin at 170 pounds as she dominated her match with four takedowns and two sets for nearfall points before collecting the pin.  

In JV matches Grady Aldridge was pinned at 132 pounds and Max Delphy gave up a technical fall at 132 pounds.  Jacob Pope lost by technical fall at 157 pounds and Brody Wenn was pinned at 165 pounds.  Griffin Bowers gave up the technical fall at 165 pounds.  Jonah Hahn lost by technical fall at 175 pounds.  Shane Cook picked up a pin for the Redwolves as he picked up two takedowns and nearfall points before the pin.  Zander Urban picked up a pin at 190 pounds in dominate fashion.  Aiden Simpson was pinned at Hwt. to end the JV match's. 

JV Wrestling Bring Home Medals from Warren Mott Tournament

The JV/Red Team competed at Warren Mott JV Individual Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 25th.  The boys had a great day and earned a ton of hardware.  At 132 pounds Clinton entered two wrestlers with Max Delphy and Grady Aldridge, both battled hard and gained more experience, but neither placed.  At 150 pounds Keegan Keith wrestled his way to the finals by earning two pins before the finals.  In a great finals match that went into overtime, Keegan fell just short giving up a takedown in overtime to take second place.  Brody Stipe competed at 150 pounds and started the day off with pin, before dropping a hard fought match 3-5.  But during the match he was injured and could not continue in the tournament.  At 157 pounds there were two separate brackets and Jacob Pope won the tournament championship in his bracket behind two pins and a 9-7 decision in the finals.  Austin Putnam was in the other 157 pounds bracket and won the tournament championship in his bracket as well.  Austin picked up two pins and a 3-0 decision in the championship match.  We had two wrestlers compete at 165 pounds as well.  Brody Wenn took 4th place overall.  Brody picked up a 12-9 win in his opening match.  In his second match he lost 4-7.  He bounced back with pin in his next match before dropping his match for third and place fourth overall.  Griffin Bowers competed at 165 as well and placed second overall after starting with an 11-7 win then earning a pin in his semi finals match.  He dropped his finals match to finish second overall.  Jonah Hahn competed at 175 pounds and picked up a close 11-10 win in his first match before dropping his next match.  Jonah won his next match 10-3 to put himself in the match for third.  Jonah picked up a pin in just 43 seconds to take third overall.  Grant Kutzley received a bye in the opening round, then won 8-2 in the quarterfinals.  In the semi finals Grant dropped his match 1-7 and in his match to place he lost 2-7 at 190 pounds.  Zander Urban competed at 190 pounds as well and earned a runner up finish.  Zander earned a pin in the quarterfinals, then an 11-4 win in the semi finals, but he lost 2-6 in the finals to finish second overall.  At 215 pounds Chance Maddox finish as runner up after a pin in the quarterfinals, then a 4-1 win in the semifinals.  In the finals bout Chance lost 2-13 to finish runner up.  At Hwt. Drew McNatt took the tournament championship after winning in the finals 3-2 in dramatic fashion.  Drew earned a 3-1 decision in the quarters and a pin in the semifinals on his way to the championship.  The JV/Red Team will compete in a varsity tournament on Saturday, Feb. 1st at Lutheran Westland High School before we enter post season action.  

JV Wrestling Competed against Birch Run

The JV/Red Team competed at home against Birch Run and had success.   The match started out with Joe Hodges at 132 pounds and in a back and forth battle, Joe lost in the third period.  Max Delphy followed up at 138 pounds and lost his match.  Brodie Stipe stepped in and picked up a pin on senior night in 1:03.  Grady Aldridge bumped up to get a match, but lost.  Austin Putnam picked up a pin in overtime with a gritty performance.  Jacob Pope bumped up to 165 pounds and picked up an 11-0 major decision win.  Brody Wenn picked up a 13-8 win after collecting a couple of takedowns and some nearfall points.  Zander Urban wrestled at 190 pounds and dropped his match.  Owen Wright wrestled at 215 pounds and picked up a pin in the second period after racking up several nearfall points.   Chance Maddox bumped up to Hwt. for a match, but lost in the second period.  Keegan Keith got a match at 150 pounds and picked up the first takedown, but lost in the second period.  Grant Kutzley finished the night in epic fashion as he got an escape in the third period to earn a 3-2 win.  

JV Wrestling Competes at Garden City Tournament

On Saturday, Jan. 11th the JV/Red Team traveled to Garden City Tournament and came away with a ton of medals.  Starting at 126 pounds Max Delphy picked up two pins on the day, but just fell short of placing.  At 132 pounds Grady Aldridge picked up a pin in the first period, but also fell short of placing.  Tim Isyk competed at 144 and came away with a 5th place finish after picking up three pins on the day.  Bronson Handy saw some action at 157 pounds and it was nice having him back on the mat, but he fell short of placing.  Austin Putnam placed 2nd at 157 pounds and collected two pins after a close 7-6 win in the first round.  Jacob Pope placed 3rd at 157 after earned a pin and a 9-1 major decision.  Griffin Bowers placed 6th and earned a pin and a technical fall 18-3 win at 165 pounds.  Brody Wenn placed 3rd after collecting two pins on the day.  Kolton Pruss placed 6th at 175 pounds after earning two pins during the tournament.   Shane Cook put three pins in a row together to make the finals at 175 pounds and finish as runner up.  Jonah Hahn placed 1st at 175 pounds after pinning all three of his opponents.  Connor Flood and Royce Martinez both battled hard at 190 pounds but both fell short of placing.  Grant Kutzley placed 5th at 190 pounds after going 4-1 on the day with two pins, a major decision 13-3 win, and an 8-4 win.  After pinning his first three opponents Zander Urban finished as runner up at 190 pounds after losing in the finals.  Manny Estrada battled at 190 pounds but was unable to place.  Will Charlton wrestled at Hwt. and was unable to place.  Aiden Simpson placed 3rd at Hwt. after earning a pin, and decisions 5-0 and 8-4 for third place.  Drew McNatt placed 6th at Hwt. after earning a pin, a 1-0 decision, and 13-0 major decision on the day.  Overall the Red Team was able to compete in a lot matches and gain valuable experience.  This week the teams head to Riverview Gabriel Richard for a quad and the Red Team heads to Wayne Memorial on Friday.  

Wrestlers Dominate Columbia Central JV Tournament

The JV/Red Wrestling Team competed on Monday, Dec. 23rd at Columbia Central for a JV Individual Tournament and showed great progress.  The team ended up with 6 champions, 5 Runner Ups, and several other placers.  Austin Putnam picked up the tournament championship at 157 pounds after defeating his teammate Jacob Pope with a barn burner of a match 15-13.  Brodie Stipe finished 4-0 on his way to the 150 pounds championship.  Keegan Keith finish 2nd place in the 150 pound weight class.  Jayden Duplessis finished 4-0 with the 165 pound championship.  Jonah Hahn finished in second place in his weight class.   Braxton Randolph went 5-0 with 5 first period pins to finish 1st at 138 pounds.  Grant Kutzley finish 1st in his weight class going 4-0 on the day as well.  Tim Isyk finish 2nd overall and lost a tough match 1-2, but finished the day with a runner up finish.  Zander Urban finished in 3rd place at 190 pounds.   Chance Maddox finished as the runner up at 215 pounds.  Griffin Bowers also finished as the runner up in his weight class.  Max Delphy was 3rd on the day at 132 pounds.  Drew McNatt picked up several pins on the day in route to his Championship at Hwt.  Aiden Simpson finished third at Hwt.  Others competing hard throughout the day were Will Charlton, Manny Estrada, Grady Aldridge, and Connor Flood. This was a great tournament that started on time and finished by 2:15 in the afternoon, with our wrestlers racking up 3-5 matches apiece.  It was a great way to start our break.  The varsity team heads to Salem High School on Friday, Dec. 27th for an individual tournament that starts at 9am.  Our Girls Varsity Team heads to Montague to compete on Friday, Dec. 27th as well, with competition starting at 9am as well.   

JV Wrestling Competes at Ann Arbor Skyline Tournament

On Friday, Dec. 13th the JV Team traveled to Ann Arbor Skyline for an individual tournament that started at 5pm.  But due to the slow progression of the tournament it ended due to lateness and computer issues.  So many wrestlers were unable to finish their entire brackets.  But overall the Redwolves had a great night with many wrestlers winning matches, going undefeated, and getting mat time in on the night.  At 120 pounds Landon Robertson got two good matches in for his first year wrestling.  Grady Aldridge competed at 132 pounds and got some valuable experience.  At 150 pounds Brodie Stipe picked up several wins on the night and finished undefeated.  At 175 pounds Shane Cook saw his first action of the year and started off with pin, before dropping a 6-12 match, then picked up two more wins to finish 3-1 on the night.  Will Charlton competed at Hwt. and picked up a win on the night.  Connor Flood competed at 190 but was not feeling well and existed early due to sickness.  Royce Martinez also competed at 190 pounds and gained some mat time.  Manny Estrada competed at 215 pounds loosing his first match on points and dropping his next match as well.  Zander Urban went undefeated for his second tournament of the year and earned him wrestler of the week for the Red Team.  Grant Kutzley competed at 190 pounds and dropped his opener, but bounced back for a 7-3 win in his next match.  Then Kutzley picked up a fall in his final match to finish 2-1. Max Delphy competed at 132 pounds and was able to compete in several matches on the night to gain valuable experience.  Tim Isyk competed at 144 pounds and picked up a pin in his first match of the night.  Tim followed that up with a second pin in as many matches, but dropped his final match to finish 2-1 on the night.  Jacob Pope wrestled at 157 pounds and earned a fall in his first match and another fall in his second match after receiving an opening round bye to finish 2-0 on the night.  Aiden Simpson went undefeated at Hwt. for his second tournament in a row, picking up two wins on the night.  At 215 pounds Chance Maddox pinned his first opponent in the first period, and followed that up with another first period pin in his second match.  Chance finished his night with his third pin to finish 3-0.  Drew McNatt competed at Hwt. lost a tough match before picking up a pin in the third period against his opponent from Ypsilanti. Drew continues to improve and gain experience with his team mates.  Not all results were able to posted as they had computer problems at the end of the tournament, which made it difficult to get all the correct results.  But other than the late night for our wrestlers and families, they were able to compete and improve overall.  The JV team will hit the mats again on Monday, Dec. 23rd at Columbia Central High School starting at 9am.  

JV Wrestling Wins Championship at Westland John Glenn Tournament

On Saturday, Dec. 7th the Clinton JV Wrestling team won the championship at the Westland John Glenn JV Tournament.  Clinton had 9 placers and three champions to run away with the title in the end.  Winning tournament championships were Brody Wenn at 165 pounds and defeating his teammate Jonah Hahn for the title.  Aiden Simpson won the heavyweight championship with a 7-2 decision.  Zander Urban won the 190 pound bracket with a pin in the second period.  Keegan Keith placed 2nd at 150 pounds.  Jacob Pope also placed second at 157 pounds.  Placing third was Kolton Pruss at 175 pounds with a pin in his last match.  Chance Maddox also placed 3rd overall at 215 pounds with a pin in the first period in his final match.  Drew McNatt took 3rd at heavyweight with a pin in the third period.  Landon Robertson placed 4th overall at 120 pounds.  Taking 5th was Griffin Bowers at 165 pounds with pin in his last match.  Tim Isyk placed 5th at 144 pounds with a pin in the first period.  Grant Kutzley placed 5th overall at 190 pounds with a pin in the second period in his fifth place match.  Placing 6th overall was Max Delphy at 132 pounds.  Competing hard, but falling short of a medal was Lucas Coughlin, Bronson Handy, Connor Flood, Manny Estrada, and Grady Aldridge.  The JV Red Team travels to Ann Arbor Skyline on Friday, Dec. 13th for a tournament that starts at 5pm.  Winning the Red Wrestler of the Week was Brody Wenn for taking first at 165 pounds. The Black Wrestler of the week was Zach Taylor for going 5-0 at Westland John Glenn Varsity Dual tournament.
