What a whirlwind day for the Redskins at the Meadows on the campus of GVSU today. Starting in 14th position out of 18 teams at the start of day 2, the Redskins shaved 26 strokes off their first day total to shoot a team round 352, which propelled them into 10th place in the state, by just two strokes over Bad Axe High School. Then Austin Fauser, one of the best golfers in the state, came up 1 stroke short of forcing a playoff with one of his really good friends, Mitch Lowney of Clarkston Everest Collegiate Catholic. "I'm telling you that I'm so proud of these 5 guys throughout this weekend and how they just wouldn't working and GRINDING over shots/putts and difficult situations. The Meadows is an extremely tight golf course, but to shave 26 strokes off of their first day total is amazing and they were so proud of each other and how they each played. The boys were so supportive of Austin and his near 2 peat as State Champion. Austin finished a stellar golf career as a Redskins: Freshmen Year-9th Place; Sophomore Year-State Champion; Junior Year-3rd Place and Senior Year-Runner Up, an outstanding accomplishment. Helping the Redskins vault up the team board was Garrett Ramos who finished T-29/104 golfers this weekend, best finish at the MHSAA State Finals; Daniel Shovels, T-87/104 golfers, best finish at the MHSAA State Finals and Erick Berndt 90th/104, 1st trip to the MHSAA State Finals and Will Gragg finished in 102 place. I have enjoyed watching the boys get better in different aspects of their games. So the being only the 2nd team in Lenawee County history to make it to the MHSAA State Finals, in 4 consecutive years, those teams have all finished in the top 10 all four years: 2016 5th/15 schools; 2017 6th/18 schools, 2018 7th/18 schools and 2019 10th/18 schools. So much to be proud of as we continue the tradition." commented Coach Ramos. So as our high school season comes to a close, the boys and I just wanted to send some thank you's out there. To our families and friends who were able to get out and watch us play this year, Signature Sewing for helping us out with all of our embroidery needs, Hometown Pizza for the pizza on our way up to States, administration for all of their support (all the help in the business office) and Coach Waltz. Until next year, #GRIND
