Boys JV Basketball Leaves Dundee With Their 13th Win
3.0 years ago | Greg Dutton
Win: 40 - 28
The boys JV basketball team swept the season series against the Dundee Vikings after picking up a 40-28 win Friday night.  The win improves the JV team to 13-1 overall and 9-1 in the LCAA. Despite a cold shooting first half, the Redwolves defense held strong giving up only 14 points.  The Redwolves would lead 17-14 at the intermission.  The defense continued the rest of the evening, while offense was able to pick up just enough.  The Redwolves came out of halftime to outscore the Vikings 14-6 in the quarter and build an 11 point lead heading into the final quarter. The momentum of the game really changed after Andy Fair nailed a buzzer beating three pointer as the 3rd quarter horn sounded. Clinton kept the Vikings at a distance the rest of the game and cruised to the win. "The thing I was most proud of this game was our defense and our composure.  We held Dundee to single digits each quarter, which is really difficult to do against any team," Coach Dutton said following the game.  We had to deal with multiple defenses throughout the game as well, including some gimmick defenses, and our guys really responded well to the challenge." Andy Fair led the Redwolves again with 16 points on the evening.  What was most impressive, was that Fair finished with team high 12 rebounds, to record his first double-double of the season, while also adding 4 steals.  Calen Keith added 7 points and 3 rebounds.  Teddy Pizio finished with 6 points, and 4 rebounds.  Jalen Stelzer and Chase Gillman each added 4 points, with Gillman recording 4 rebounds, while Preston Cruz chipped in with 3 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Carson Pixley contributed 5 rebounds. The Redwolves will be back in action on Monday for a Valentines Day game at home against Hudson. This game is a make up game from last week's cancellation. The JV game will start at 5:30 with the varsity game set to tip at 7:00.

Fair Fuels Redwolves JV Basketball to Win Over B-D
3.0 years ago | Greg Dutton
Win: 64 - 50
The JV boys basketball team picked up their 2nd consecutive victory, this one of the non-league variety, against the visiting Patriots from Britton Deerfield.  The 64-50 win over the county rival helped improve the Redwolves' record to 12-1 overall while remaining 8-1 on the season in the LCAA. With the Patriots hanging tough in the second half, Andy Fair found his rhythm, scoring 10 points in the 3rd quarter, and 11 points during the first 5 minutes of the 4th quarter to help build a 20 point lead before being sent to the bench for the rest of the game.  Fair finished with a team high 33 points on the night to go with 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists.   "Andy has been working hard all season, and he totally deserves the night he had tonight," Coach Dutton said after the game. "We know Andy can put some points up in a hurry when he is in the zone, and he found it during that second half. It's fun feeling when you're in the zone and feel like you can't miss." Calen Keith added 9 points while pulling down a team high 8 rebounds and adding 3 steals.  Like Keith, Preston Cruz had a nice all-around performance finishing with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and a team high 3 assists. Jalen Stelzer finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals in one quarter of action. Jack Dettling came off the bench to add 4 points, Teddy Pizio 2 points, and Chase Gillman 1 point to round out the Redwolves scoring.  Although he didn't score, Ian Williams came in to provide a defensive spark and finished with 6 rebounds while adding 2 steals. The team will be back in action on Friday night, as they travel to Dundee for a LCAA matchup.  The JV game will tip at 5:30 with the varsity game to follow.
JV Boys Basketball Beats the Blizzard and Columbia Central
3.0 years ago | Greg Dutton
Win: 40 - 37
The boys JV basketball was able to pick up a LCAA win against the visiting Golden Eagles of Columbia Central on Tuesday night before the blizzard arrived.  The win would not come easy, as Columbia played until the final buzzer, but the Redwolves came away with a 40-37 win to bounce back from their first loss of the season and improve to 11-1 overall and 8-1 in the LCAA.   Andy Fair led the Redwolves on the night with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals.  Calen Keith reached double figures as well, adding 13 points.  He shared the team high for rebounds with Nate Page, as they each pulled down 6 boards, while Page also finished with 4 points.  Chase Gillman came off the bench to chip in 6 points, while Carson Pixley added 2 points to round out the Redwolves scoring.  "We are happy with the win, even though it wasn't our best effort," Coach Dutton said following the game. "Once we realize that we are going to get every team's best shot the rest of the season, and can't let our guard down, we will be alright.  We have to be ready to play our best each night.  I am proud of the team for sticking together during our shooting woes.  Our defense never let up." The home game scheduled for Thursday night with Hudson was postponed and rescheduled for Monday, February 14th. The next game for the Redwolves will be at home on Tuesday, February 8th against non-league county rival, the Britton-Deerfield Patriots of the TCC.
Boys JV Drops First Game of the Season at Blissfield
3.0 years ago | Greg Dutton
Lose: 44 - 58
The JV Boys Basketball team has been off to a scorching start to the season, winning their first ten games of the season.  It looked as if things were going to continue the way they have been going during a ridiculously hot start to the game Friday evening at Blissfield. The team poured in 20 points during the first six minutes of the game.  However, things came to a screeching halt as the shots stopped finding the net for the Redwolves, while the Royals made some adjustments and began to pull away during the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Clinton fell to the Royals by a score of 58-44 to drop to 10-1 overall and 7-1 in the LCAA.   "The first quarter was kind of like fools gold." Coach Dutton said after the game. "We couldn't miss during the first 6 minutes of the game, and we started to think that every shot we took was going to go in, regardless of if it was a good shot or not, and we fell back to our averages. We were never able to find a rhythm after that." While Clinton scored 20 points during the first quarter, Blissfield was able to keep pace putting in 15 points of their own.  They were able to continue their scoring during the 2nd quarter while clamping down on the defensive end and outscored Clinton by a 17-1 margin during the quarter.  Clinton tried to cut in to the halftime deficit during the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but were never able to put together a run to truly threaten the Royals lead. Andy Fair led the Redwolves with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.  Preston Cruz and Calen Keith each added 9 points while Cruz added 7 steals to go with 3 rebounds, and Keith grabbed 5 rebounds.  Nate Page and Jalen Stelzer each chipped in with 8 points to round out the scoring on the night, while Page also grabbed 6 rebounds.  Clinton will look to find their winning ways again as they face Columbia Central at home on Tuesday, February 1st. The JVs tip at 5:30 with the varsity to follow at 7:00.
JV Boys Basketball Runs Record to 10-0 With Snow Day Road Win at Hillsdale
3.0 years ago | Greg Dutton
Win: 49 - 31
The JV boys basketball team put their undefeated record on the line Tuesday night as they traveled to Hillsdale to face the Hornets for the final game through the first round of the LCAA schedule.  The Redwolves would slowly and methodically pull away from the Hornets, winning all four of the quarters during the game for a 49-31 final. While the game was not the most eye-pleasing game to watch from a fan's perspective, there were some good moments.  Clinton jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead before the scoring came to a quick hault.  Hillsdale's zone defense began to do it's part to slow the Clinton offense forcing turnovers and missed shots from long range.  The halftime score of 21-11 had snow day written all over it.  Both teams came out of halftime and were able to pick up the scoring.  Clinton extended the lead to 38-22 heading to the fourth quarter and would eventually build a 20 point cushion in the fourth quarter before the game ended at the final score. "It wasn't our best effort, and certainly some of that was because of Hillsdale and what they were doing. We are happy with the win, but know we will have to play better basketball in the future," Coach Dutton said following the win. Andy Fair led Clinton with 21 points.  Calen Keith added 7 points and 7 steals, while Preston Cruz finished the night with 5 points and 8 steals and 4 rebounds. Brodie Stipe contributed 4 points, while Ian Williams and Jalen Stelzer each added 3 points.  Chase Gillman, Nate Page, and Broden Manchester rounded out the Clinton scoring with two points each.  Clinton will be back on the road Friday when they will head to Blissfield to begin the second round of the LCAA schedule.
Boys JV Prevails Over Ida
3.0 years ago | Greg Dutton
Win: 47 - 43
For much of the game on Thursday night, the Clinton and Ida JV teams struggled to find any offensive rhythm.  Things suddenly changed in the 4th quarter as both teams took turns going back and forth before the dust settled with Clinton on top after the final quarter 47-43.  The win moves the Redwolves to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference.   Ida quickly took a 5-0 lead to start the game before Jalen Stelzer and Preston Cruz got things going going on a two-man 12-7 scoring run to even the score after the first quarter.  It was Andy Fair and Calen Keith's turn in the second quarter as the two scored five points apiece and Carson Pixley added a basket to build a six point halftime lead.  The story of the third quarter was defense as both teams struggled offensively.  Ida outscored the Redwolves 8-6 to cut the lead to four points heading into the fourth quarter.   Things quickly changed as both teams scored 17 points in the quarter.  Ida would make five three pointers, however, Andy Fair would do his best to keep Clinton on top with 3 three pointers of his own.  Ida took the lead on two occasions, each time, Clinton would retake the lead.  A nice sequence by Preston Cruz at the end of the game in which he grabbed a defensive rebound, got fouled and made 1-2 from the line, before assisting on the last basket of the game off of an inbounds play, helped put the game away. Andy Fair ended the game with 22 points including 6 three point baskets.  Jalen Stelzer and Calen Keith each added 8 points, while Preston Cruz finished the night with 5 points. Carson Pixley and Chase Gillman each chipped in with two points as well. The Redwolves will take their undefeated record with them on the road next week as they travel to Hillsdale on Tuesday for a 5:30 game time.
Boys JV Basketball Rolls Past Morenci
3.0 years ago | Greg Dutton
Win: 63 - 15
The boys JV basketball team continued their hot streak to start the season with an impressive 63-15 non-league win over the visiting Bulldogs of Morenci.  The win improves the JV team record to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the LCAA.  The Redwolves were able to rack up 22 points each in the first two quarters to take a commanding 44-7 lead into halftime. Andy Fair led the way in the first half with 18 points, including 14 in the opening quarter.  All eleven players that dressed for the game found the scoring column.  Jack Dettling came off the bench in the second quarter to help extend the Clinton lead by pouring in 7 points. Fair led the Redwolves in the scoring column for the night with his 18 points, playing in just two quarters.  Jack Dettling netted 12 points on the night, and Calen Keith was the third Clinton player to finish in double digits with 11 points to go with 6 steals.  Jalen Stelzer added 5 points, while Ian Williams 4 points, Brodie Stipe and Chase Gillman 3 points each, Preston Cruz, Gabe Manchester, and Carson Pixley 2 points each, and Nate Page 1 point, would round out the scoring.  The Redwolves will have a quick turnaround with LCAA opponent Ida coming to town on Thursday, January 20th.  The JV game is set for 5:30PM with the varsity game set to tip at 7:00PM.
JV Boys Make it Seven Straight Wins with Victory over Dundee
3.0 years ago | Greg Dutton
Win: 61 - 59
Much like their first home game of the season, the JV boys basketball team had a thrilling finish to their second home of the season this past Friday night.  Just like that first home game back in December, the Redwolves would come out victorious in this one as well, however it would take overtime to do it, with a 61-59 win over the visiting Vikings from Dundee.  The win improves the JV boys basketball team's record to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the LCAA.   Although the Redwolves led 24-17 after the first quarter, it was Dundee who got off to the quick start, building a 12-5 lead before the Clinton offense would begin to take off.  The tempo and scoring slowed down considerably in the second quarter.  Dundee cut in to the lead to go in to halftime down just three, 30-27. The second half was a wild back and forth affair.  The Redwolves built several small leads only to see them wiped out as Dundee would close the gap each time.  When the dust settled after the 3rd quarter, Clinton had a 44-39 lead.  Late in the 4th quarter, Clinton led 48-44 until Dundee tied the game up for the first time since leading in the first quarter.  With the score tied at 48, Clinton went on a 4-0 run and looked as if they would take control to close the game out.  However, the Vikings would not go away and tied the game at 52.  After Dundee forced a Clinton turnover, they had the ball for the last possession of the game, but the Clinton defense held strong to force overtime.   Both teams would take turns leading in overtime.  A Nate Page rebound and basket with just under 30 seconds left in the game finally game the Redwolves the lead for good.  They forced a turnover after a timeout. A Dundee foul sent Preston Cruz to the line where he missed the front of the one and one.  Dundee went down to get a shot off, but Clinton came up with steal. Another quick foul sent Cruz back to the line for two free throws, and he would split the pair, making the first and missing the second.  On the ensuing Dundee possession, Clinton came up with another steal as the time ran out of the game. Andy Fair led the Redwolves in the scoring column with 13 points in two quarters of action.  Jalen Stelzer finished the game with 11 points, coming all in the first quarter, his only quarter he saw action in for this game.  Calen Keith also added 11 points, scoring a basket in each of the four quarters as well as overtime, and had a team high 5 steals. Preston Cruz ended the night with 9 points while having a team high 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Nate Page scored 7 to go with 5 rebounds. Chase Gillman added 6 points, and Brodie Stipe and Carson Pixley each contributed 2 points on the night.   Clinton will be back in action next week as they play host to non-league, county rival, and former TCC opponent, Morenci on Tuesday, January 18th.  The JV game is set to tip at 5:30!
Boys JV Basketball Escapes Onsted With a Win
3.0 years ago | Greg Dutton
Win: 66 - 57
The boys JV basketball team had all the answers for a relentless Onsted team on Tuesday night.  In a fast paced, up-tempo, highly entertaining game, the Redwolves were able to come away with 66-57 win on the road to keep their perfect record in tact.   Jalen Stelzer got things kick started on the first possession of the night with his first of four three pointers in the first quarter.  His 12 points and 2 assists, along with Preston Cruz's 5 points, in the quarter would help put the Redwolves out in front 23-16 at the end of the first quarter.  The Redwolves would extend their lead to 10 points going in to halftime.  The second half saw contributions from a number of people, but none bigger than Calen Keith's 9 point fourth quarter performance including multiple baskets at much needed times down the final stretch of the game.  Keith would finish with a game high 23 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.  Andy Fair added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Jalen Stelzer made it three double digit scorers on the night as he finished with 12 points and 2 assists.  Preston Cruz filled the stat sheet with 7 points, 5 steals, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.  Cason Pixley contributed 6 points, all in the third quarter, to go with his team high 10 rebounds.  Chase Gillman would add 3 points and 6 rebounds while Ian Williams would round out the scoring with 2 points. The Redwolves, now 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the TCC, will look forward to a three game home stand which kicks off Friday night, January 14th, against Dundee.  The JV game will start at 5:30PM with the Varsity game set to tip at 7:00PM.
JV Boys Basketball Runs Past Whiteford for 5th Victory in as Many Games
3.0 years ago | Greg Dutton
Win: 47 - 38
The boys JV basketball traveled to Lourdes University this past Saturday afternoon to take on the Whiteford Bobcats.  Enjoying all of the bells and whistles of a top notch college facility at Lourdes University, the team came out scorching the nets and ran away with a 47-38 win to improve their record to 5-0 overall while remaining 3-0 in the LCAA.  Jalen Stelzer contributed to the fast start scoring 8 points and dishing out 2 assists in the opening quarter as the Redwolves built a 16-3 lead. The Redwolves would keep Whiteford at a distance in the second quarter and extend their leading to 16 by halftime.  The second half saw a lot of back and forth action with each teams making mini runs.  The Bobcats were never able to cut the lead to single digits until the final minute as Clinton was able to respond to every Whiteford run with one of their own.  The largest lead in the second half for Clinton was 17 points. Calen Keith finished the game with 16 points making 7 of his 8 two point field goal attempts for an impressive 87% field goal percentage while pulling down 8 rebounds. Andy Fair had an impressive floor game finishing with 9 points and 4 assists.  Jalen Stelzer added 8 points to go with 2 assists and 2 steals.  Preston Cruz and Carson Pixley each chipped in 6 points apiece and Ian Williams had 2 points. The boys JV team will be back on the road again Tuesday, January 11th, to take on the Onsted Wildcats.  JV game time is set for 5:30PM with the varsity game set to start at 7:00PM.
Boys JV Leads Wire to Wire for First Win of 2022 Over Hudson
3.0 years ago | Greg Dutton
Win: 44 - 31
The boys junior varsity basketball team was back in action on Thursday in their first game after the holiday break.  They traveled to LCAA foe Hudson to begin the new calendar year and came away with a 44-31 victory leading from the opening tip until the final buzzer.  The Redwolves built a 12-5 lead in the first quarter and would be in total control through most of the second quarter.  However, a quick 5-0 spurt to finish the first half kept the Tigers within reach and only down nine heading to the second half.  Hudson would come out of the second half and not go away easily as they won the third quarter and pulled within 7 points going to the fourth.  Clinton would respond the challenge in the fourth quarter and make a push to open the lead back up to double digits. "You have to give Hudson credit for hanging around," Coach Dutton said following the game. "When it looked like we were about to run away with the game, they responded to keep within reach.  We have to continue working on closing teams out." Andy Fair led the Redwolves with 19 points on the night.  Chase Gillman and Calen Keith added 6 points apiece, while Preston Cruz and Jalen Stelzer finished with 5 points apiece.  Preston Cruz also added 5 assists and 5 steals.  Carson Pixley led the team with 8 rebounds to go with his 1 point.  Ian Williams chipped in with 2 points as well.   The Redwolves, now 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the LCAA, will head to Lourdes University on Saturday, January 8th for 12:00PM tip against Whiteford.
JV Basketball Hangs on to Beat Blissfield and Remain Undefeated
3.0 years ago | Greg Dutton
Win: 45 - 43
A common theme has started to develop with this year's JV boys basketball team.  In each of the first three games this season the Redwolves have started out scorching the nets and building big leads.  The team has outscored it's opponents by a combined score of 54-23 in the first quarter after Friday's first quarter outburst put the team up 20-12 at the end of one. It is the final three quarters that leaves more to be desired.  The Redwolves did just enough in those final three quarters to hang on to win Friday's nights home opener against Blissfield 45-43 to remain undefeated and improve their record to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the LCAA. Six players found the scoring column in the first quarter, led by Jalen Stelzer's nine points. The Redwolves lead would shrink to six points by half time as both teams would take their turns making runs in a back and forth action packed second quarter.  A quick third quarter spurt coming out of halftime saw the Redwolves build their largest lead of the game at ten points.  There were several opportunities to build on that lead, but the Royals were able to come away with some crucial stops on the defensive end to remain in striking distance.  That is exactly what they did as Blissfield found their shooting touch, knocking down back to back threes and two more quick scores to tie the game heading into the fourth quarter.  With the score all tied up at 39, the intensity on the defensive end for both teams picked up making life difficult for either offense.  Nate Page was able to record the only two baskets of the quarter for the Redwolves, both difficult contested shots around the basket.  As the game winded down, Blissfield had the last possession of the game trailing by two.  After running the clock down, the Royals called a timeout, followed by a Redwolves timeout.  When the two teams finally got back on the court, the Clinton defense put the clamps on and a 30 footer from the Royals missed wide right off the back board as time expired.  "We were able to control the game by getting out in front of them from the start.  We had some chances to put the game away, and not let it come down to the last possession of the game, but give Blissfield credit for playing like they did with their backs against the wall.  Our defensive effort and execution was the best it has been in that fourth quarter.  Holding them to four points was a tremendous effort by our guys.  We will continue to work on the offensive execution in these types of situations.  It was a great game, great crowd, and great environment.  I couldn't be happier for the players on our team," Coach Dutton said following the game. Jalen Stelzer led the Redwolves in the scoring column with 15 points to go with four rebounds and four assists. Andy Fair added 10 points, including going 6-8 from the free throw line. Nate Page chipped in with 8 points, while Calen Keith led the team with 7 rebounds to go with his 3 points. Rounding out the scoring for the Redwolves was Preston Cruz with 4 points, Teddy Pizio 3 points, and Chase Gillman with 2 points. The JV team will now be off for winter break and will be back on the court again when they head to Hudson on Thursday, January 6th.
JV Boys Basketball Uses Big Start...and Finish to Beat Columbia Central
3.0 years ago | Greg Dutton
Win: 48 - 38
The JV boys basketball team traveled to Columbia Central Tuesday night for their first LCAA game of the season.  Just like in their opener last week, they used a big start to help propel them to a 48-38 victory over the home team.  The Redwolves shot out of the gate to take a 16-4 lead after the first quarter led by six points apiece from Jalen Stelzer and Andy Fair. Unlike the first game of the season, however, Columbia would make a run of their own to get back in the game and cut the lead to just six points at halftime. They eventually would even take a one point lead in the third quarter.  It was then Clinton's turn to respond, and that they did in a big way, led by Calen Keith's eight third quarter points, and finished the quarter on a 9-0 scoring run to take a 37-29 lead into the fourth.  Clinton would be able to keep Columbia from putting together another run, and held on for the comfortable ten point victory. "It was nice to see our response when they made their run. We got back to playing Clinton Basketball, and the guys stepped up to the challenge.  I was very proud of them, and they should be proud of themselves," Coach Dutton said following the game. Andy Fair led the charge finishing the game with 19 points including 13 in the second half. Calen Keith added 9 points, all coming in the second half.  Rounding out the scoring for the Redwolves was Jalen Stelzer who finished with 6 points, Teddy Pizio 5, Preston Cruz 4, Chase Gillman 3, and Nate Page 2.     Clinton, now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the LCAA, will be back in action for their first home game of the season as they will welcome the Royals of Blissfield to town Friday, December 17th for another LCAA clash.  The JV game will start at 5:30 with the varsity game at 7:00.  This will also be Middle School Appreciation Night, as we will recognize the 7th and 8th grade basketball teams at halftime of the varsity game.

Win: 53 - 39
The Clinton boys JV basketball opened the season with 53-39 victory over non-league rival Manchester.  The team got off to a hot start putting up 18 points in the opening quarter to build an 11 point lead and extended it 13 points at halftime.  A 19 point 3rd quarter by the Redwolves helped the team to build a 49-30 lead going into the 4th quarter.  The lead would eventually grow up to 23 points before the Dutch scored the final 9 points of the game. 10 out the 12 players that saw game action found the scoring column led by Freshman Chase Gillman's 19 points including 4 three pointers.  Another Freshman, Jalen Stelzer, added 16 points in two quarters of game action. Ian Williams, Brandon Johnson, and Calen Keith all finished with three points.  Nate Page, Andy Fair, Seth Root, and Preston Cruz each finished with two points, while Teddy Pizio added a free throw to finish with one point.  The Redwolves will head to Brooklyn Columbia Central on Tuesday, December 14th for thier first LCAA matchup of the season.
