Aldridge Wins East Jackson Tournament For Girls Wrestling

Game Date
Dec 8, 2023

On Friday, Dec. 8th our girls wrestling team traveled to East Jackson High School for their opening tournament of the year.  It was a late night but our girls competed well in this large tournament.  Junior Raven Aldridge led the way as she placed 1st at 155 pounds.  The returning all state wrestler picked up several pins on the night after an opening round bye, Raven pinned Kyra Nickerson from Waterford Kettering in 1:34.  Then in the semi finals she defeated Ava Pelton of Montague 10-6.  In the finals Raven picked up another pin, this time over MacKenzie Maka from Allendale in 3:56 to earn her first tournament title of the year for her.  Sophomore Gabby Pearce competed at 135 pounds and fell short in her two matches and will look to the next tournament to bring home some hardware.  Senior returning all state wrestler Faith Blackburn was out sick and was unable to compete for the Redwolves.  Sophomore Kierra Fivenson competed at 145 pounds and went 2-2 on the day just falling short of placing.  Kierra picked up wins over Kayleigh Brown from Thornapple Kellogg High School with a pin in 3:00 and another pin over Emily Bontrager of Gull Lake.  Freshman Annabelle Howard picked up her first tournament medal of her young high school career by placing 4th overall at 140 pounds. Annabelle opened her tournament with a pin over Devon Usher of East Kentwood in 1:21, then dropped her quarterfinals match to Sydney Thompson of Eaton Rapids.  After receiving a bye Annabell picked up two more pins, the first over AnnaBelle Sturdevant of Columbia Central in 2:02 and the other over Cayleigh Ferguson of Lakeville Memorial in :56 to put her in the 3rd place match.  Annabelle came up short in her last match and placed 4th overall.

The girls will travel to Brighton High School on Friday, Dec. 15th for their next tournament starting at 5:00.
