Wrestling Defeats Napoleon to Open the Season

The wrestling team opened their season at home in one of their two home matches this season. Clinton defeated Napoleon 58-22 to start the season 1-0. The Redwolves displayed their youth as they started 7 freshman and 3 sophomores out of 14 starters. But the youth didn't slow them down. The started at 144 pounds with senior returning all stater Braylon Long picked up a pin to start the team. Next was freshman Braxton Randolph at 150 pounds picking up at 10-0 major decision after building a lead with two take downs and a four point near fall. Next up was Isaac Keibler at 157 pounds and he collected a void to bring the team score to 16-0. First year wrestler, senior Brodie Stipe battled his opponent that was ranked in the top five of the state, into the second period but was pinned. The first year senior showed great fight and potential. John Keibler was another wrestler to bump up like Long, Randolph, and Isaac did earlier. John wrestled up at 175 pounds and gave up the first takedown, but got right to his feet for an escape and then a takedown of his own. The second period had a couple of reversals and Keibler was able to secure the win for the Redwolves with a pin. Freshman Gradyn Whelan completed against a regional qualifier from last season and made quick work with a takedown and two sets of nearfall points before he got the pin. Owen Wright completed at 215 pounds and lost 4-19 with a technical fall. Hudson Miller competed at 106 pounds and dropped his contest 0-15. Both Zach Taylor and Wyatt Cooley earned forfeit wins at 113 and 120 respectively. Another Freshman Brock Worden picked up a pin at 126 pounds in the first period. Freshman Grady Aldridge stepped in at 132 pounds and was defeated. The dual ended with another freshman Jaxon Phillip competing at 138 pounds and picked up a quick first period pin at 138 pounds.
In other varsity matches on the night Drew McNatt went 1-1 earning a 10-0 win at Hwt. in his first match and dropped his second match at Hwt. by fall. Aiden Simpson also went 1-1 at Hwt. earning a pin in his first match and loosing by pin in his second match. Zander Urban dropped his match at 190 pounds. Landon Lakatos made quick work of his opponent at 190 pounds after picking up a big first period takedown and earned a pin. Joe Hodges ended the night by picking up a pin at 132 pounds after two sets of nearfall points. The Redwolves will be traveling to Westland John Glenn High School on Saturday, Dec. 7th for a varsity dual tournament for the Varsity Black team, and the Varsity Red Team will also be at Westland for an individual tournament. Our Varsity girls team will head to East Jackson on Friday, Dec. 6th for an individual tournament. The gym was packed on Wednesday night, thank you for the support.
