On Friday, Jan. 21st the girls varsity wrestling team competed at Fowlerville Girls Tournament.  Five of our girls competed and all came away with hardware.  Raven Aldridge earned the tournament championship at 135 pounds after collecting a first round pin over Abby Florey in 1:32.  Raven then picked up another pin over M. Herrick in :31 seconds.  She finished her day with a pin in the finals in 2:54 after collecting several takedowns.  Faith Blackburn then picked up the championship at 130 pounds as she grabbed a first period pin over L. Shrum.  Faith then pinned E. Medford in 2:32.  In the finals Faith earned another first period pin in 1:39 over E. Gessner in her finals match.  Michelle Arntz placed second on the day at 110 pounds after dropping a match to S. Tompson, Shelly came roaring back to defeat M. Penrose with a pin in 2:40.  Then in her final match Shelly turned into a scoring machine picking up several takedowns and several sets of nearfall points to defeat B. James and place second.  Leanne Mercier competed at 155 and placed second overall after starting her day with a pin in just :35 seconds over V. Carter.  Leanne dropped her second match to G Lafferty, before earning another pin in 1:24 over I. Sanchez.  The final competitor was Jayden Rosza who competed at 160 and dropped her opening match to R. Venegos.  Then wrestled B. Green for a tough loss.  Jayden bounced back and won an 8-5 decision over S. Schafer to finish 3rd overall.  Our girls continue to improve and develop overall.   We are proud of our girls toughness and work ethic.  The next event for the girls will be at Ovid Elsie High School on Friday, Jan. 28th.
