Clinton Wrestling Wins Wittenbach Duals

On December 23rd Clinton hosted the Chris Wittenbach Duals eight team tournament.  Clinton wrestled Allen Park in round one and came away with a 57-23 win.  The dual started at 145 with junior Ethan Younts picking up an early takedown and picked up the first period pin in 1:15.  Senior George Ames stepped in at 152 pounds and earned a pin as well in the first period over Blake Doris in 1:31.  At 160 pounds Joey Preston took down Isaiah Coreless with a pin after picking up three takedowns.  Senior Captain Kent McCombs earned a pin in just 34 seconds at 171 pounds.  Kent is a third year captain for the Redwolves and it was nice having him back in the line up.  His leadership and presence helps our team in many ways.  Senior Logan Badge picked up the pin in just 28 seconds at 189 pounds as the Redwolves jumped out to 30-0 lead.  Allen Park picked up four pins a in a row as they took the Redwolves by surprise.  Clinton give up pins at 215, Hwt., 103, and 112.  Connor Busz picked up a win by forfeit, then Zak Shadley picked up an 11-8 win at 125 pounds to help shift the momentum back to Clinton.  Senior Chase Packard started a rally of three pins in a row to finish the dual.  Maurice Ames and Coy Perry both picked up pins at 135 and 140 pounds, and Perry's pin was in just 14 seconds.  

Next up was Division 2 St. John's High School for the Redwolves and the dual started at 152 pounds.  George Ames stepped in to earn his second first period pin of the day.  Sophomore Joey Preston then grabbed another pin at 160 pounds after collecting two takedowns and a set of near fall points.  Kent McCombs grabbed a quick pin in 20 seconds at 171 pounds to put Clinton up 18-0.  Wyatt Hicks and Logan Badge collected wins by forfeit at 189 and 215 before Hamza Rafferty was pinned at Hwt.  Braylon Long picked up a 8-2 victory at 103 pounds, while Connor Younts won by forfeit.  Connor Busz then grabbed a first period fall at 119 pounds in just 1:21.  Zak Shadley started fast and earned a pin in just 30 seconds at 125 pounds.  Chase Packard then earned a 16-1 technical fall at 130 pounds after racking up four takedowns and three sets of near fall points.  Coy Perry competed against the number one wrestler in division 2 at 140 pounds and fell short against Jacob Brya.  Ethan Younts finished the dual with a well wrestled 4-1 win at 145 pounds.  Clinton defeated St. Johns 59-15.  

In round three Clinton competed against Jonesville and was able to shut them out 81-0.  Picking up pins in the dual were Wyatt Hicks, Logan Badge, Hamza Rafferty, Braylon Long, Connor Younts, Zak Shadley, Maurice Ames, and Ethan Younts.  Others collecting wins in the dual were Kent McCombs, Jake Felts, Connor Busz, Chase Packard, Coy Perry, and George Ames.  In Round four Clinton defeated state ranked Springport and came away with a 68-3 victory.  Kent McCombs earned a 14-2 major decision to start the dual at 171 pounds.  Wyatt Hicks picked up a win by forfeit at 189 pounds.  Logan Badge earned a first period fall at 215 pounds.  Hamza Rafferty picked up a first period fall at heavyweight.  Braylon Long grabbed a pin in 1:33 at 103 pounds to make it 28-0 Clinton.  Connor Younts picked up a forfeit win at 112 and Connor Busz earned a first period pin in just 43 seconds at 119 pounds.  At 125 pounds Zak Shadley dropped a tough match 2-3.  Chase Packard picked up a wild 17-11 win at 130 pounds.  Coy Perry picked up a 2-0 win at 135 pounds over Joe Sukle.  At 140 pounds Maurice Ames earned a pin the second period after picked up two takedowns and a set of near fall points.  Ethan Younts pinned Patrick Coloreth in 1:07 after earning the first takedown and a set of near fall points.  George Ames earned another first period pin at 152 pounds.  Joey Preston earned a 13-4 major decision at 160 pounds while grabbing four takedowns and a set of near fall points, leaving the final score 68-3.   That win set up the finals where Clinton took on Bronson who is ranked 3rd in division four.  Clinton came out ready to wrestle and shocked Bronson as the final score ended up 72-0 in favor of Clinton.  Wyatt Hicks started the dual at 189 pounds and earned a pin, Logan Badge followed that with a pin at 215 pounds in just 18 seconds.  Hamza Rafferty picked up a pin at Hwt. in just 37 seconds.  Braylon Long continued the streak of first period pins as he earned a pin in 51 seconds at 103 pounds.  Clinton 24 Bronson 0.  Connor Younts collected a pin at 112 pounds after turning his opponent for three sets of near fall points.  Connor Busz and Zak Shadley earned first period pins at 119 and 125 pounds respectively.  Chase Packard then battled for a 6-2 win at 130 pounds.  Maurice Ames competed at 135 pounds and earned a second period pin in 3:11 after collecting two sets of near fall points.  Coy Perry earned a 5-1 win at 140 pounds.  Ethan Younts grabbed a pin in the third period after giving up takedowns in the first and second periods, but kept wrestling to earn the pin.  At 152 pounds George Ames battle through the match to earn a 7-4 win.  Joey Preston earned another first period pin at 160 pounds in just 44 seconds.  Kent McCombs finished the dual and our day with a 9-5 win at 171 and make the final score 72-0 Clinton.  We competed well at home and it was nice to see the gym packed with people as we wrestled better each round.
