Clinton girls wrestling Captures their first team state title! Taylor Randolph is first ever girls individual state champ!

Game Date
Mar 21, 2021

The Michigan high school girls state finals took place Sunday March 21st at the revolution event center. The team race was decided by individual scoring based on advancement by individual wrestlers. This event is not broken into divisions based on school size but all as one division. Despite that and competing against 117 schools with over 220 wrestlers, the school that stood alone at the top when the day ended was our Clinton high school. Clinton was first with 78 points, Grand Rapids Northview 2nd with 55, Saline 3rd with 52, Goodrich was 4th with 51, and Monotague rounded out the top 5 with 49 points. Clinton was powered by 3 girls advancing to the championship match. Faith Blackburn wrestled at 132 for the Redskins and the freshman got 3 pins on her way to the championship match all in the first period. In the finals she battled all the way to the end but dropped a tough 5-3 decision to finish 2nd in her first time at the finals. At 145 Jaecy Jones recieved a first round bye from her high seed and then won her quarterfinal matchup by injury default while leading 3-0 to advance to the semifinals. In the semi-finals in a back and forth contest her opponent was again unable to finish the match due to injury and Jaecy advanced tot he finals. In the title tilt she was unable to come out with the win and finished 2nd. She ends her career at Clinton high school as the first ever girls 4 time letter winner and a 3 time all-stater finishing 3rd, 5th, and 2nd in the 3 years since the tournament started. Taylor Randolph competed at 138 at the Championships and started the day with a bye as a high seed in the round of 16. Her quarterfinal matchup ended in a pin at 3:37. In the semi-finals she battled her way through a tight 2-0 win to advance to the final for the 2nd time in her career. The state championship match started with an early takedown by Randolph and the first period ended 2-0. Randolph chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped for a 3-0 lead. 30 seconds later she secured a takedown and at 3:45 of the match she secured the pin to win the state title and become our first girls state champion! She is also a 3 time all-stater with one more year to go.
