#3 wrestling team upholds it Ranking in winning Lawton team tournament

The varsity wrestling team traveled to Lawton for their holiday team tournament and left with the championship trophy. The day started with Bronson and a 48-18 win for the Redskins. The dual was highlighted by a rematch of the state finals match between Aj Baxter and Bronson's Ben Modert. This time Baxter flipped the scored and came out on top 10-8. Round 2 was against Decatur and and the Redskins only dropped one match enroute to a 78-3 win. Next up was Constantine and again the Redskins rolled 69-12. Next up was 10th ranked White Pigeon. The Redskins won 46-30 to set up a showdown with the 4th Ranked team in division 4 in Carson City Crystal. The dual did not disappoint as both teams combined for 18 ranked wrestlers in teh lineup and lots of close matches and an exciting finish. The dual started at 152 with Clinton sending out 5th ranked Jeff Konz against an undefeated 8th ranked wrestler. After trailing in the first period 2-1 Konz rolled to a 9-3 win to put the skins up 3-0. Next up #1 ranked Brayden Randolph faced off with the 3rd ranked wrestler. Randolph won 14-9 to increase the lead to 6-0. 9th ranked Cecil Rafferty was up next and posted a crucial 8-0 major decision with a late takedown and rideout before #6 Logan Badge pinned his opponent to make it 4 straight wins and a 16-0 Redskin lead. Not to be outdone Carson City sent some firepower at 215, Hvy, 103, and 112 with the #4, 2, 6, and 1 ranked wrestlers getting 4 straight wins (3 by pin) to take the lead 21-16. Aj Baxter was next for the Redskins and the current number 3 provided a pin and put the Redskins back up temporarily 22-21. At 125 and 130 Carson City sent the #3 and #1 kids at their weights and they were able to get pins and push the margin to 33-22 and the margin for error to zero for Clinton. #1 Ranked Noah Comar got a pin in just :57 seconds to make it 33-28. 140 was next and Carson City sent out the #5 ranked wrestler in D4 and Clinton countered with Spencer Konz ranked #8. Konz gutted out a tight 1-0 win to make it 33-31 Carson City with one match to go. The final match at 145 featured 2 more ranked kids deciding the title. Carson City was ranked #4 and the Redskins had #5 ranked Riley Jeffrey. Jeffrey was able to cruise to a solid 7-3 win to lift the Redskins to the title 34-33 over Carson City. The wins improved the wrestling teams record to 15-3 for the season. AJ Baxter, Jeff Konz, and Cecil Rafferty went 5-0. Noah Comar, Spencer Konz, Riley Jeffrey, and Brayden Randolph went 4-0, Christian Minard went 4-1. Cahse Packard and Garrett Phillips went 3-1. Ryan Phillips finished 3-2 for the day. The team returns to action at Home Saturday January 5th for the 44th Dave Elliot invite.
