The varsity wrestling team started the season at home with 2 wins. The Redskins beat Napoleon 66-18 and D3 #9 ranked Ida 39-33 in a back and forth match that came down to the wire. The dual with Ida started at 152 and Ida scored first with a pin to go up 6-0. Clinton received a forfeit at 160 and lost a close match at 171 to make the score 9-6 Ida. At 189 pounds junior Cecil Rafferty took the mat and delivered a key pin for the Redskins in 3;29. A loss at 215 for the Redskins and a forfeit in our favor made it 18-12 Redskins heading back to the bottom of the line-up. Ida received a forfeit at 103 before AJ Baxter got a pin at 112 pounds for the Redskins keeping the margin at 6 points 24-18. Ida prevailed in another tight match at 119 before forfeiting at 125 and then they got a pin at 130 to make the score 30-27 with 3 matches left. Freshman Landis Gilman got the fall at 135 in 4:41 to extend the lead to 36-27. The whole dual came down to 140 pounder Riley Jeffrey then because Clinton was without a 145 pounder for the night. A win for Ida would give them he dual on tiebreaker criteria. Jeffrey got out to an early lead but gave up a takedown with 7 seconds remaining to tie the score as they went out of bounds. The restart in the center proved crucial as Jeffrey was able to get a reversal at the buzzer for the 9-7 win. After the forfeit at 145 the final score was 39-33. Winning 2 matches on the night was AJ Baxter, Noah Comar, Landis Gilman, Riley Jeffrey, and Don Stump. Nate Darm, Christian Minard, Jeffrey Konz, Garrett Phillips, Shayne Quick, Brayden Randolph, Cecil Rafferty, and Trent Sexton all recorded one win.
