CLINTON, Mich. – The Clinton Varsity Redwolves showcased their resilience on Wednesday, securing a 3-1 victory over the Brighton Varsity Bulldogs in a game defined by dominant pitching and timely hitting.
Ashlynn Benschoter was nearly untouchable in the circle, silencing Brighton’s bats with a masterful performance. She allowed just three hits and one run over seven innings while striking out six and walking two, earning a well-deserved win.
After Brighton scored in the top of the first, the Redwolves responded with unwavering determination. In the bottom of the second, Raven Aldridge’s groundout tied the game, sparking Clinton’s momentum. Lydia Ormsby then delivered a clutch go-ahead RBI single in the fourth inning, giving Clinton a 2-1 lead they never relinquished.
Clinton’s offense was led by Ormsby, Calli Kruger, and Kylinn Long, who each collected two hits in the game. Ormsby, Aldridge, and Kruger drove in key runs that propelled the Redwolves to victory. Clinton’s aggressive baserunning and solid defensive play kept the Bulldogs in check.
The victory not only highlights Clinton’s tenacity and teamwork, but it also propels them confidently into the District Tournament on Friday, where they will look to defeat Onsted at 2pm in Napoleon
“Tonight was a total team effort, and Ashlynn’s performance in the circle was absolutely crucial,” said Lisa Roberts, Clinton Varsity Redwolves head coach. “Our players showed grit, confidence, and determination from the first pitch to the last.”
Redwolves fans can look forward to an exciting District Tournament game as the team carries this momentum forward.
