May 1, 2025 – Ypsilanti, MI — The Clinton Varsity Redwolves battled Lincoln Varsity Softball in a competitive doubleheader on Thursday, opening the day with a walk-off loss before bouncing back with a dominant win in Game 2.
Game 1: Walk-Off Homer Ends High-Scoring Battle
In the opener, Clinton fell just short in an 11-10 heartbreaker as Lincoln’s Savanna Kane launched a walk-off solo home run to center field in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Redwolves showed grit and resilience, rallying from an early deficit to tie the game in the sixth on a two-run shot by Kylinn Long.
Lincoln jumped ahead early with home runs by Kane and Autumn Anderson and capitalized on eight walks throughout the game. Clinton battled back behind key hits from Taryn Hernandez, Lydia Ormsby, and Long—each collecting two RBIs. Hernandez led the Redwolves with three hits in five at-bats.
Brenna Broman pitched six innings in relief, striking out four while giving up five earned runs. Taryn Hernandez started the game, allowing three runs in just over one-third of an inning.
Despite the loss, Clinton outhit Lincoln 11-9 in the high-scoring affair.
Game 2: Clinton Cruises to 10-4 Victory
Clinton responded with authority in Game 2, notching a 10-4 win behind a balanced offensive attack and strong pitching from Ashlynn Benschoter. The Redwolves jumped out early in the second inning, capitalizing on a Lincoln error before Raven Aldridge crushed a two-run homer to center field.
The momentum continued in the third with RBI singles from Hernandez and Ormsby, and three more runs crossed the plate in the fourth thanks to a Kruger RBI double and a two-run homer by Lola Szczesniak. Cora Harsh added a solo shot in the fifth to cap off the scoring.
Benschoter earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing just three hits and four unearned runs while striking out six.
Eight different players tallied hits for Clinton, with Szczesniak, Aldridge, and Hernandez each driving in two runs.
The Redwolves (1-1 on the day) will look to build on their Game 2 momentum as they host Onsted on Tuesday.
