Clinton went 0-2 in the Whiteford Invitational today, despite out hitting their opponents in both games. The elements were a factor in the defensive plays, but the team learned a lot and will continue to improve. Game 1 vs Chelsea: Brenna Broman started for the Redwolves, completing 1 inning before Kendall Phillip came in relief in the second. Phillip was unable to shut down Chelsea until damage was done, settling in to her game. After 2 innings, Chelsea led 12-0. Broman finished allowing just 3 hits, 2 walks, and 5 earned runs. Phillip allowed just 3 hits in 4 innings with 4 k%u2019s, 6 walks, and 2 earned runs. Despite the early deficit, Clinton answered back with a 6 run second inning all with 2 outs. Taryn Hernandez was a perfect 3-3 with an RBI. Phillip was 1-2 with 2 RBI, and Kylinn Long was 3-3. Clinton gathered 10 hits total to Chelsea%u2019s 6, but struggled to string runs together in the later innings, eventually falling due to time limit after the 5th. Game 2: Taryn Hernandez takes the loss, allowing 9 hits with 5 k%u2019s and 1 walk. Whiteford had the game winning hit in the bottom of the 7th. (Scored was tied 2-2). Clinton gathered 10 hits total, but again struggled to piece them together. Raven Aldridge was 2-3 with a double. Hernandez was 2-4, Phillip and Ramos hit back-to-back doubles to get 1 run, Aldridge scored the other run on a ground ball by Sposite in the second inning. Clinton left too many runners on base to win this close one.
