BRITTON DEERFIELD SCHOOLS: 28

The boys junior varsity basketball team traveled to Britton on Tuesday, February 25th, to take on the Patriots for the last time as part of the TCC (the two teams are planning to continue playing each other as a non league game beginning next school year).  The Redskins were able to take control early, hold off a push from BD early in the third quarter, and thne run away for a comfortable 48-28 victory.  The win improves the Clinotn jv team to 7-10 overall and 5-6 in the TCC.

Unlike the first meeting, Clinton was able to play with the lead from the beginning, where as Clinton trailed most of the game before taking the lead with under two minutes remaining and hanging on for a dramatic win back in mid January.  One difference was that the Redskins had their starting point guard, Zach Kovach, back for this second matchup.  Dealing with sickness in the first meeting, Kovach made his presence felt in this matchup on the defensive end with his length and quickness, and orchestrating the team's offense to get his teammates going at the other end.

After racing out to a 15-5 first quarter lead, B-D made some adjustments to hang around, and cut into the Redskin lead at halftime to trail by just 7.  B-D would get as close at 5 in the third quarter until the Redskins found their groove again, thanks in large part to the play of Lucas Richie.  Lucas had his best performance of the year, scoring 10 points, 8 of which came in the second half.  Once the Redskins pushed their lead back out to 10, they never looked back and cruised to the final buzzer.

Richie's 10 points led Clinton in the scoring column, while fellow freshamn classmate, Landon Busz, added 9 points.  Sophomore, Derek Tomalak also added 9 points, Ethan Herington 7 points, Bryson VanSickle 6 points, Kyle Wenk 4 points, Zach Kovach 2 points, and Matt Johnson 1 point.

The JV team will wrap up the home portion of their season as well as the TCC portion of their season with a game against Whiteford on Friday night.  Tip is set for 5:30 with the varsity game, which will honor their two seniors, is set to tip at 7:00.
