MADISON HIGH SCHOOL: 37

It was just a little over a month ago in which Clinton and Madison squared off in their first of two TCC matchups.  The first round, played at Clinton, went to Madison in impressive fashion, pulling away in the second half for a 26 point, 59-33 win.  On Friday, Clinton visited Madison in hopes of starting the second round of TCC play quite a bit differently.  They did just that, as they had a 33 point turnaround from the first game and came away with a 44-37 win on Madison's homecoming.

The game proved to be a good one from the start.  No team could create any separation in the first quarter.  There were several lead changes, but when the dust settled, the first quarter ended in an 11-11 tie.  Madison was able to create a little separation in the second quarter, building a six point lead, but Clinton would score the final three points of the half to go in halftime down just 3, 20-17.  Madison had an opportunity with the last possession of the first half to increase their lead, but Jacob Gilson made a crucial play on the ball to make sure that did not happen.

The third quarter was much like the first as both teams battled back and forth to try and take control, but neither could do so and Clinton trailed by just two heading in to the fourth quarter.  The start of the 4th quarter was much the same until a quick 8-0 scoring burst put the Redskins up 7 with just 4 minutes remaining.  Clinton was able to get key defensive stops down the stretch and timely baskets before finishing it by going 4 for 4 from the free throw line in the last minute for the win.

Derek Tomalak played one of his better games of the season and led the Redskins in scoring with 14 points to go with 4 rebounds.  Grant Stockford had a near double-double recording 9 points and 11 rebounds while also swiping 3 steals..  Zach Kovach added 8 points.  Bryson VanSickle had his best performance of the season going 3 for 3 from the field to finish with 6 points.

The win improves the Clinton JV record to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in the TCC.  They will be back in action on Tuesday as Morenci visits for another TCC matchup.  The JV game begins at 5:30 with the varsity game set for a 7:00PM tip.
