Boys Junior Varsity Basketball vs. Madison HS School

Game Date
Feb 7, 2019
Score
: 70
MADISON HIGH SCHOOL: 49

The boys Junior Varsity Basketball team returned for a home game against TCC rival, Madison, or the first time in over 2 weeks.  You could the team was excited to play on their home court in front of their home fans as the Redskins controlled the game from start and finish, and played what look to be their most complete game of the season yet.  The Redskins opened a lead early, and raced to a 7--49 victory to move to 9-4 overall, and 9-1 in the TCC.

Clinton led 18-11 after the first quarter as the offense had the ball moving which led to quality, high percentage, shot attempts.  The Redskins' defense was on the same page as it's offense, forcing the Trojans to have some frustrating possessions.

The turning point of the game was in the second quarter.  The Redskins scored a couple quick baskets to open up a double digit lead.  This led to the Trojans changing their defense, attempting to press the Redskins.  However, the Redskins handled the pressure, and executed text book-like, to beat the press for lay-ups or open, spotted up three's.  A 22-6 advantage in the quarter had the Redskins up 40-18 at the halftime.

Madison showed some fight, opening the 3rd quarter with a 6-0 run, but that would be as close as the Trojans would get.  A 10-1 Redskin of their own, put the Redskins up 50-25, and they were able to cruise the rest of the way.

Jacob Huddleston took advantage of his opportunities to put the ball in the hoop tonight, finishing with a season high 16 points, while shooting 6 for 7 (85%) for the game.  Eric Briggs came off the bench to provide a big scoring spark as he has done so many times this season, finishing with 15 points on an impressive 6 for 8 (75%) shooting performance himself.  Tommy Burt made it three Redskins to finish in double digits, as he had a 10 point, 8 rebound, 3 assist, blue collar-type performance.  Freshman, Matt Johnson, recorded a season and career high 5 points. For the game, the Redskins shot 53% from the field and 73% from the free throw line.

The team will be back in action this Saturday, February 9th, for a make-up game at another TCC foe, Summerfield.  The game will begin at 4:30PM (one hour earlier than normal), with the Varsity game to follow at 6PM.
