WHITEFORD MS/HS: 45
The Clinton Redskins junior varsity basketball team closed out their 2018 campaign victorious after defeating Whiteford at home by a score of 59-45. Clinton (3-3, 3-1 TCC) came out firing on all cylinders, taking a 17-9 lead after the first quarter. Eric Briggs came off the bench in the first quarter to provide a big spark, scoring 10 of the 17 points in the quarter. Whiteford settled in and found some rhythm during the second quarter outscoring the Redskins 17-14 to close the gap to five points heading into halftime. After a back and forth start to the third quarter, the Redskins found some breathing room to close out the quarter leading 45-33. Timely baskets and key free throw shooting during the fourth quarter ultimately sealed the victory for Clinton.
Tommy Burt led the team in scoring with 17 points while pulling down 8 rebounds. Eric Briggs finished with 14 points. Jacob Huddleston stuffed the stat sheet with an 11 point, 12 rebound double-double. Davey Campbell chipped in with 7 points to add to his 6 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists.
The Redskins will begin the 2019 portion of their schedule on Tuesday, January 8th, with a home contest against TCC opponent Sand Creek. Tip off is a 5:30PM which will be followed by the varsity contest 20 minutes after the conclusion of the JV game.
