In a tightly contested matchup on Saturday, the Clinton Junior Varsity Redwolves emerged victorious over the Grass Lake Junior Varsity Warriors, winning 2-1 in a game dominated by strong pitching performances.
Clinton's Caleb Ernst was the standout on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings while allowing just three hits and one run. He struck out nine and walked five, keeping the Warriors' offense in check throughout the game. Zack Andrews came on in relief to close out the game and secure the save.
Grass Lake took an early lead in the first inning after a passed ball allowed a run to score. The game remained tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth, when Clinton finally broke through. Roman Roberts led off with a single to center field, and Cyle McLeod later drew a walk, bringing Roberts home for the go-ahead run.
Roberts finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in the game-winning run for the Redwolves. McLeod’s walk in the sixth inning proved to be crucial in the team’s late rally.
