The Clinton JV Redwolves volleyball team traveled to Adrian High School on Saturday for the annual County Championship Tournament, turning in an impressive performance to earn a second-place finish among the county’s top teams. In 2025, the Redwolves captured the county title with a dominant two-set victory over Tecumseh. This year, the tables turned as the two rivals met again in the championship match, with Tecumseh ultimately claiming first place. Despite falling just short of repeating as champions, Clinton put together an outstanding day of volleyball, finishing pool play undefeated and battling through two challenging bracket matches to reach the finals. The Redwolves opened the tournament against a strong Hudson team, earning a convincing 25-15, 25-15 victory. They continued their momentum against Sand Creek, winning 25-15, 25-21, before closing pool play with a hard-fought win over Adrian. In a back-and-forth battle, Clinton came through in the clutch to secure a 27-25, 25-23 victory. The 3-0 pool play record earned the Redwolves the top seed in the gold bracket. Clinton carried that momentum into bracket play, where the Redwolves faced the seventh-seeded Blissfield Royals. The Wolves controlled the match from start to finish, cruising to a 25-12, 25-6 win to advance to the semifinals. There, Clinton faced a tough Madison team in what proved to be one of the most memorable matches of the day. The opening set featured relentless side-out volleyball, with neither team willing to give an inch. Playing without a scoring cap, the Redwolves displayed tremendous determination and composure, eventually pulling out a thrilling 34-32 victory. Clinton carried that energy into the second set, securing a 25-16 win to punch its ticket to the championship match. As expected, the finals brought a rematch with Tecumseh. Both teams came out aggressively, with strong serving and attacking play keeping each set competitive in the early stages. However, Tecumseh's serving pressure eventually proved too much for the Redwolves to overcome, and the rival team secured the championship. Despite the final result, Clinton demonstrated the qualities that have made this team successful throughout the season: aggressive play, resilience in high-pressure moments, and contributions from across the roster. The Redwolves fought hard for every point and earned plenty to be proud of with their second-place county finish. Brooklynn Kranz led the offensive attack with an incredible 63 kills while adding 48 digs and 27 assists. Kylie Hicks orchestrated the offense with 78 assists and contributed 43 points, including 14 aces, along with 44 digs and 18 kills. Makena Peters anchored the back row with a team-high 80 digs while adding 39 points and 10 aces. Paisley Kurowcki also made a significant impact from the service line, recording 37 points, including nine aces, and 14 digs. At the net, Karsyn Nicholson contributed 26 kills, while DeLane McKinnon added 25. Avah Vershum, Harper Wright, Ella Patterson, and Madi Stratz also provided important offensive contributions. Defensively, Ella Wollett and Aby Webb stepped up with several clutch plays to help keep the Redwolves in contention throughout the tournament. With the county tournament behind them, Clinton now holds an impressive 22-8 record and will look to build on Saturday's success next week. The Redwolves will face Madison again, along with Hanover-Horton and Olivet, as they continue preparing for the final stretch of the season.
