The Clinton JV Redwolves volleyball team turned in another strong performance on Saturday, October 3, battling through a talented field at the D3/D4 Showdown to earn a third-place finish. The Redwolves were dominant in pool play before falling in the semifinals to the eventual tournament champions, Cass City. Clinton opened the day with a convincing performance against Allen Park Inner City, cruising to wins of 25-6 and 25-5. The Redwolves continued their strong play in their second pool match against Novi Christian, earning a 25-21, 25-8 victory. The toughest test of pool play came in the final match against Pewamo-Westphalia. Clinton battled to a 25-18 victory in the opening set before dropping the second set 20-25. With their strong overall pool-play record, the Redwolves earned the No. 1 seed heading into the tournament semifinals. In the semifinal round, Clinton faced an extremely scrappy Cass City team. The Redwolves battled throughout both sets, but ultimately fell 18-25 and 22-25. Cass City went on to win the tournament championship. Despite the semifinal loss, the Redwolves' third-place finish was a total team effort, with contributions coming from throughout the lineup. Karsyn Nicholson led Clinton offensively with 23 kills, followed by Brooklynn Kranz with 21, Kylie Hicks with 11, DeLane McKinnon with 10 and Avah Vershum with five. Hicks led the team in assists with 36, while Kranz added 23 assists. The Redwolves also found success from the service line. Paisley Kurowicki led the team with 38 service points, including 14 aces. Hicks added 26 points and 12 aces, while McKinnon contributed 20 points and seven aces. Defensively, Makena Peters led the Redwolves with 36 digs. Hicks added 22 digs and Kranz had 19. Avah Vershum and Ella Wollett each contributed 13 digs, while Aby Webb added 12. Ella Patterson and Madi Stratz also provided offensive threats at the net throughout the day. The Redwolves' strong performance at the D3/D4 Showdown moves their season record to 17-6. Clinton will return to league play on Tuesday when the Redwolves face the Ida Bluestreaks. With the regular season continuing to wind down, Clinton will look to build on another successful tournament performance and carry its momentum into the final stretch of the season.
