Clinton MSXC Concludes Banner Year

The 2019 Clinton Middle School Cross Country program has continued to improve since the program began in 2013.  The team set the school mark in medals with 130 and tied the 2018 team with 11 trophies/plaques. The program earned 7, 16, 24, 36, 71, 116, and 130 medals respectively over the past 7 seasons.  “I looked around at conditioning in August and expected good things to happen this year” said Coach Delezenne.

Coach Delezenne said “we had runners log well over 100 miles this summer.  The returning runners were motivated to improve on last season.” Both teams were competitive and thrived on the success of one another.

The girls team was a force to be reckoned with as it won 9 of 10 invites this year!  The team was consistently led by Samantha Coots, Allison Bowles, Zoey Sierer, Maliah Piatt, Summer Chandler, Faith Blackburn, Mieah Rodriguez, Paige Shankland, Emma Shankland, and Sarah King.  “The high school team is going to be fun to watch in 2020. This group of girls have won for the last 3 seasons. They have been fun to watch. I wish them the best of luck at the next level” said Coach Delezenne. Jana Hillegonds, Emerald Sierer, Maya Freeman, Ava Roesler, Dalia Albashir, Kira Wilson, Jaelinn Posa (manager), and MaeLynn Williams (manager) rounded out the girls team.

The girls team was able to build on the 2018 season where it won 6 trophies/plaques.  “We ran at the Mega Jam to find out where we stood. I wanted the team to compete against the best teams in the state” said Coach Delezenne .  At one point, the girls won eight straight invitationals.

The boys team was competitive in every race this season.  The team was led by Max Hampel. Lucas Goodman, Nate Arntz, Nickolas DeVitto, David Wegner, Brodie Stipe, Reed Patrick, and Travis Faust.  This team was young but earned two trophies this season. Justin Celmer, Drew McNatt, Michael Ruhl, Jalen Stelzer, Shane Cook, Elijah Turner, Jack Morgan, Pavel Gergely, Jacob McAllister, Cole Hillegonds (manager), and Ronan Stelzer (manager) rounded out the boys team.  “The high school team is getting a great group of incoming freshmen for 2020. I wish them luck at the high school level” said Coach Delezenne.
