Redskins dominate Lenawee county championships

The wrestling team had 14 entries into the county tournament for the most in school history. The team then went on a historic run at the championships that featured 12 make the championship match and 10 win the title for the most from one school in county history. Connor Busz, Chase Packard, Landis Gillman, AJ Baxter, Kent McCombs, Spencer Konz, Brayden Randolph, Logan Badge, Jack Voll, and Will Felts all claimed titles. Zak Shadley and Ethan Younts finished 2nd. Noah Deshano was 3rd and George Ames was 4th. Busz won his title by defeating the #3 ranked wrestler in the state in overtime 5-3. Packard upset the #4 ranked wrestler in the state in his semi-finals match before winning a barn burner in the finals 14-13. Gillman was able to win his title with a 5-4 decision over the #6 ranked wrestler. AJ Baxter got an 11-6 win and then 5-0 decision in the final over the #6 and #5 ranked wrestlers in the state. Kent McCombs needed just 26 seconds to win his title getting a pin over his opponent early in the final match. Spencer Konz earned his title with a 1-0 decision over the #6 ranked wrestler in the state. Brayden Randolph won his 3rd straight county title with a 5-3 decision over the #8 ranked wrestler in the state. In the 189 pound final it was #1 vs. #2 in D3 and Logan Badge was able to pull out the decision 1-0. Badge earned upper weight MVW for his efforts. Jack Voll dominated his way to the title with 2 second period pins to claim his title at 215. Will Felts capped the night off for  the Redskins with his second of 2 pins to earn his 2nd straight title at 285. Earlier in the night Ethan Younts erased a 7-2 deficit to start the 3rd period with a flurry of late takedowns to tie it at 9 and push it to overtime where he was able to secure one more takedown to advance to the finals. Zak Shadley got a pin in the semi-finals to earn his way to the title match where he finished 2nd. At 160 Noah Deshano rebounded from a tough loss in his semi-final match to get a pin in a minute 43 for third. 

It ended a great night that saw Casey Randolph be inducted into the Hall of Fame for Lenawee county. The Team wrestles at home for teacher appreciation night Wednesday and then will travel to Madison for a tournament on Saturday.
