Clinton Claimed 8 Champions at The Lenawee County Meet

On Friday, Jan. 27th Clinton competed in the Lenawee County Meet at Adrian College's Merillat Center.  This event is always a great event with a packed house.  The top four wrestlers in the county at each weight class are invited to participate, so it is always an honor to participate.  The Lenawee County Wrestling Hall of Fame is also introduced in between rounds in front of a great crowd.  This year Clinton's Jeff Rolland was inducted into the Hall of Fame.  Congratulations to Coach Rolland and his family.  

After introducing the first girls matches last year at the county meet, this year the county was able to put full brackets together in several weight classes for the girls.   Clinton earned 8 overall champions for the tournament, 3 runner ups, 2 third place finishers, and 1 fourth.  

The Champions were Connor Busz at 120 pounds as he defeated Zack Martinez of Morenci with a first period pin.  Busz then defeated Teagan Cunningham of Onsted with another first Period pin.  At 126 pounds Connor Younts defeated Connor Deaton of Blissfield  by technical fall 16-1 in the first period.  Connor then defeated Tucker Miller of Hudson 9-2 for the championship.  Ethan Younts competed at 150 pounds and defeated Joe Clark of Addison by pin, followed by a pin of Jalonn Borders of Madison in the championship match.  At 157 pounds Bryce Randolph pinned Owen Sysko of Tecumseh in the opening round, before defeated Aden Barrett of Hudson 4-0 for the championship.  Bryce was voted by the head coaches as the tournament most valuable upper weight wrestler as well.  Hamza Rafferty won the county championship at heavyweight after opening with a pin against Logan Russel of Madison before defeating Cameron Miller of Addison 3-0 for the county title.  Faith Blackburn won the 125/130 pound girls bracket by defeating Sabree Bonsell of Hudson in the finals by fall.  Raven Aldridge picked up the county championship at 135 pounds by defeating Caroline Yoder of Addison by pin in just 24 seconds.  In the finals Raven pinned Emerson Clark of Hudson in the first period.  The final Champion from Clinton was Leanne Mercier, as she won the 145/155 bracket by defeating Emma Reckner of Sand Creek 3-1 in the finals.  Finishing runner up for Clinton was Braylon Long at 113 pounds.  He opened with a pin over Wyatt Andrews of Tecumseh then lost a decision to Nick Sorrow of Hudson.  Zak Shadley finished runner up after two tough matches.  In the opening match Zak defeated Joey Spagnoli of Adrian 6-4 in overtime.  In the finals Zak lost to Cole Marry of Hudson 4-6.  Maurice Ames finished runner up at 138 pounds after opening up with a 17-6 win over Lukas Leonard of Madison before dropping his finals match to Austin Marry of Hudson.  Michelle Arntz finished runner up at 105/110 after advancing to the finals by pinning Kaitlynn Tripp of Onsted.  Then losing to Arayah Tindell of Madison in the finals.  Gabbi Pearce and Kierra Fivenson both finished third place in their weight classes.  And Nate Arntz finished in fourth at 106 pounds.  Both Clifford Jones and Wyatt Hicks were alternates for the event at 144 and 215 pounds respectively.   Next up the team will be looking towards the LCAA Tournament, the Madison Varsity tournament, and the Midland Girls Tournament before we start the MHSAA Team and Individual Districts.
