Wrestling repeats as state champs!!

The wrestling team wrestled in the state team finals on Tuesday March 30th and marched through the best teams in the state by large margins. The quarterfinal was against Ravenna and the redskins roared out to a fast start and won 75-6. This dual was highlighted by Logan Badge securing his 100th career victory. In the semi-final against Leslie it was more of the same as Clinton won the first 7 matches before dropping 2. The last 5 all went the way of Clinton for a 59-9 final to advance to the state championship match against New Lothrop. The final match started at 140 and Landis Gillman up a weight wrestled the #2 140 pound wrestler in D4. he started fast and won 12-4 for a major decision. Up next Kent McCombs secured another major decision for his 100th career victory 10-0. AJ Baxter at 152 won another major with a 16-8 score to make it 12-0 Redskins. Spencer Konz came up next at 160 and secured a 9-0 major decision. At 171 Brayden Randolph got a fall right at the minute of the first period and then Logan Badge finished off his guy at 189 16-5 and the Redskins were cruising up 26-0. After dropping matches at 215 and heavyweight Clinton 103 pounder Connor Younts got a pin in 30 seconds. Coy Perry then had the honor of seeling the championship with a 4-0 decision at 112. 119 was a forfeit victory to Connor Busz and then the Shadley brothers were up at 125 and 130. First Nik Shadley got a technical fall 22-3 and then Zak finished his guy with a 6-0 win. The finla bout was Ethan Younts at 135 and after a slow start he got a pin at the 2:37 mark to start the celebration with Clinton winning 55-9. It was a dominating performance that saw Clinton only lose 5 matches all weekend in the 3 duals. The team finishes the year 22-1 and will now turn it's attention to the individual finals Saturday April 3rd at VanAndle arena
