The Clinton 8th Grade Girls Volleyball team took 2nd place at the County Tournament this past weekend. The girls went 5-1 during pool play. They defeated Sand Creek (21-20, 21-18) and Morenci (21-16, 21-12) and split with Madison (15-21, 21-18). Coming out of pool play they were ranked 1st in their pool. In their semifinals game, they defeated Whiteford in two sets with scores of 21-14, 21-14. The Redskins were defeated in the finals by a hard hitting LCS team with scores of 8-21, 21-12, and 9-15.
The girls played hard all day and had numerous come from behind victories. They showed stamina and improved communication on the court. Overall it was a strong showing. Robin Mull was the top scorer for the Redskins. She registered 35 points (8 aces) and an impressive 98% serving percentage. Other scorers were Nalani Schanz with 25 points (14 aces), Sammy Starnes with 12 points (8 aces), Stella Starnes with 11 points (9 aces), Rebeca Ureche with 11 points (4 aces), Kendall Phillip with 10 points (4 aces), and Kyleigh Ramos with 4 points (2 aces).
Leading the offense were setters Kyleigh Ramos and Nalani Schanz. Stella Starnes was the heavy hitter at the net. She recorded 11 kills. Sammy Starnes followed with 10 kills, Shay Vanzandt and Kyleigh Ramos each had 5 kills, and Rebeca Ureche had 3 kills on the day. Shay Vanzandt had numerous saves on the day. Defensive specialists, Robin Mull and Kendall Phillip, registered the most digs on the day. The Redskins end their season with an overall record of 10-7-3 and 6-4 in the TCC.
