Girls Junior Varsity Volleyball vs. Multiple Opponents

Game Date
Sep 22, 2018
Score
: 4
MULTIPLE OPPONENTS: 5

Today the JV volleyball girls traveled to Onsted for their home invite.  In pool play the girls would first face host Onsted and would lose 23-25 and 13-25.  In this game we would lose a player to injury and the elite 6 would be a tough team and battle all day long the rest of the tournament.  In match two of the day the girls would go on to face Quincy.  In this match up the starting six would have to battle hard and would have girls playing in positions that they weren’t used to, but that didn’t let that stop them and their determination.  Taking set one 25-11 the girls played hard and would play as a team but would come up short losing set two 11-25.  In the third and final match up in pool play the girls would really know what it would be like to dig deep and play as a team and family together.  The girls would start out a positive note in set one, but would then lose another player by injury and would then would have to play the remainder of the game with five players.  The fab five would go on to win set one 25-18 and would then come out strong and playing together in set two winning 25-18.  In pool play the team would go 3-3 and get placed 3rd.  Next would bracket play, where the elite six would make into the gold bracket of the tournament and 7th seed overall.  With the brackets set the girls would face the 2nd ranked team in the tournament which would end up being the host Onsted Wildcats.  This match up was a great test for the girls and elite six would start off by going back and forth with Onsted with points.  The final match would then come down to the fab five to finish out strong and would lost set one 20-25.  In set two all the heart and fight the fab could give was given and they would come out on top winning 25-22.  It would come down to the third and final match to decide a winner to move onto the semifinals and it would the fab five playing hard, talking, and not giving up on themselves and each other.  The girls would end up losing 12-15 in the third and final set of the match.  Coach Martin is very proud of all the hard work and heart that the girls gave today at the tournament and had to face much adversity, but would still walk out of that gym with their heads held high and knowing that they gave it their all today and left it all on the court.

On the day the lady redskins were led by Lena Korte with 17 kills, 6 assists, 3 blocks, 19 digs, 27 points and 12 aces.  Mackenzie Brandvold had 10 kills, 1 block, 20 digs, 12 points and 1 ace.  Josilyne Schanz had 6 kills, 5 blocks, 16 digs, 23 points and 9 aces. Taylor Randolph had 3 kills, 22 digs, 9 points and 3 aces.  Jaecy Jones had 4 kills, 13 digs, 6 assists, 8 points and 1 ace.  Ashlyn Schmidt had 4 kills,  a team high 23 digs, 14 assists, 17 points and 3 aces.  Overall it was a great day for the girls.  The amount of support that was given today for the girls by their parents, another injured player on the team Hallie Kittle who was supporting all day long and also varsity player Allie Elwart.

Next the girls will play on Tuesday September 25th when they travel to Summerfield to play in a doubleheader in another TCC matchup starting at 5 p.m.
