Varsity wrestling season ends in semi-finals

The varsity wrestling team competed in the team state quarter-finals and beat Springport 45-24 to advance ot the semifinals. The meet started at 145 with Jeffrey Konz getting a 5-4 decision for the Redskins. The Redskins lost at 152 by pin and Braydn Randolph got a tech fall win to put the Redskins back in front 8-6. After a loss at 171 The Redskins split at 189 and 215 with a pin By Trent Sexton and then a loss by pin at 215. Heavyweight Donstump turned the tide in The Redskins favor securing a pin over the #2 ranked heavyweight in the state with a fall in 1:29 to put the Redskins ahead for good. That was followed by a pin by AJ Baxter at 103 to put the Redskins ahead 26-15. Springport got a pin at 112 to close the gap to 26-21. Clinton then put together a string of wins to secure the win. Noah Comar received a forfeit, Christian Minard got a pin in 1:15 and Anthony Stockdale got a major decision 12-0. After a loss at 135 Riley Jeffrey closed the scoring with a 7-0 decsion to push the Redskins to the semi-finals.

            In the semi-finals The Redskins were set to face New Lothrop. The match started with a pin at 189 pounds by New Lothrop before Clinton put together 3 wins and a pin to start off with a big lead. Trent Sexton got a 8-1 decision at 215 and Don Stump won 3-1 before a pin by AJ Baxter and then a huge upset win by Brandon Beach staked the Redskins to an early 15-6 lead. After a loss at 119 Noah Comar took just :40 to get a pin for the Redskins and increase the lead to 21-9. Clinton and New Lothrop traded wins at 130 and 135 with Antony Stockdale getting an overtime decision and the score was back at a 12 point margin 24-12. Unfortunately the Redskins couldn't get another win in the dual and lost 31-24. The team advanced the farthest into the state tournament in school history and ends the season 33-5. The individual portion of the tournament will take place at Ford Field this weekend with 11 Qualifiers for the meet.
