BLISSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL: 13
Jonathan Baughey nailed a 22-yard field goal with 2.9 seconds remaining to give the Clinton varsity football team a district championship with a 16-13 win over the previously-unbeaten Blissfield Royals.
Clinton took control of the game early with a 9-minute scoring drive that culminated in a six-yard scoring plunge by Brayden Randolph. George Ames added a 35-yard touchdown later in the half to give Clinton a 13-0 halftime advantage.
The host Royals answered with scores in the third quarter and early fourth to set up Clinton’s game-winning drive, which began deep in its own territory and ended at the Blissfield five-yard line with 7 seconds remaining to set up Baughey’s game-winning kick. Ames provided a big play after Blissfield’s second score, blocking the extra point to keep the game tied at 13.
Randolph finished with 113 yards on 20 carries to lead the way offensively, while Ames added 69 yards on 11 carries. Davey Campbell chipped in with 68 yards on 13 carries.
Defensively, Randolph finished with 10 tackles, while Campbell added 9, including two for loss. Bradyn Lehman added eight tackles.
The season has unfortunately been suspended due to orders from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. When it resumes, Clinton (8-1) will travel to Warren Michigan Collegiate to play for the team’s first Regional championship since 2015.
